Hi Nancy,

The item is up now at http://www.archive.org/details/gt556

Are you using http://www.archive.org/create/ to create and upload your items, or are you using the old process?

Alexis

Alexis,

Thank you most kindly for un-stucking this program.

Although the item does appear that the link you provided, and is found by the links at my GenderTalk page (www.gendertalk.com/real/550/gt556.shtml) it isn't found by a search of the GenderTalk arcive and "556" (and various permutations thereof). Nor is it found by a search of the audio archives for "556". What's up with that?

I am not familiar with the new upload process. I've been uploading to the GenderTalk collection for a long time, but noticed starting several months ago that the process changed and the folders I create and fill to upload new programs do not get deleted or moved, and the new process integrates them into the database much more quickly.

If you could point me to some explanation of the new system aimed at persons like myself who directly upload and administer their own collections, I'd sure appreciate it.

Many thanks,
Nancy

Hi,

That's odd, for some reason, the item gt556 was not indexed in the search engine. I'm not sure if this is a problem caused by using the old upload method or not, but it would be best to transfer to using the new system anyway. (I've submitted the item to be indexed by the SE, so the search problem should clear up soon.)

To submit an item in the new method:

* Go to http://www.archive.org/create/
* Type in the item identifier you'd like to use (e.g. gt556) and click the "create item" button
* Wait a few moments for the item to be checked out. This is the checkout page - don't close it! Once the item's checked out, you'll be given ftp information about where to upload your item. You can either use an FTP program to do this, or use Internet Explorer for windows.
* When you're done uploading, make sure you check the item back in! There's a link on the checkout page that will check it back in for you (or, if you're using IE, click the "Click here when done" link in your ftp window).
* Choose a mediatype and collection
* Enter metadata
* Wait about 10 minutes for your item to go live

Let me know if you need any assistance with the process. Thanks!

Alexis

Our SearchEngine fell 3+ days behind in updates due to some random problem. It's still just under 3 days behind, so items will take some time to get indexed right now unfortunately.

This is normal/usual, but it does happen from time to time.

Hi, webmistress. I just uploaded an MP3 for the first time.

The locale should be:

http://www.archive.org/details/MakerFaire2006_MakingInstrumentsPanel

All my text made it, but I can't find the MP3 itself -- is this delay related to the broken upload mechanism you mentioned

Marc

Your mp3 file is there, at the bottom of the page (under your descriptive text). If you'd like to set a file format (like 64kbps MP3) for the file, click "edit item" in the lower left box, scroll to the bottom, and choose a file format from the drop down menu. Click submit and wait about 10 minutes for your change to show up.

Excellent. Thanks very much. Yeah, I re-loaded the file this morning and it took. Much appreciated for the additional advice.

Best,
